Apple has again launched a new edition of iPhones this year as it has always done. This year’s edition is more intricate because Apple changed the name of one the new iPhones and also because of the feature disparity.
Apple announced the iPhone 14 series at the Apple’s “Far Out ” event (usually held on the second Tuesday of September which would have been September 13)but took place September 7, 2022 which earlier than usual.
The iPhone 14 consists of four phones which have two distinct tiers: the first tier is the Basic, which includes the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus, and the second tier is the Premium, which includes the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 14 series started on the 9th of September. The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max were released in the market on the 16th of September and the iPhone 14 Plus will be on sale on 7th of October.
These devices could be mixed up with their prototype except from the larger 6.7 inch model. Apple didn’t remake the design of the iPhone 14. It looks just the same as the iPhone 13. The module of the rear camera is still in the diagonal layout, which still looks pretty good. The notch is just as slim as the one from last year. Although Apple says the device has been improved. The improvement lies under the hood.
Price
Even though there were rumors about the over the top prices of the iPhone 14 series, Apple made the price of the iPhone 14 at $799, iPhone 14 Plus at $899, iPhone 14 Pro at $999 and iPhone 14 Pro Max at $1099.
The iPhone 14 series does not have a mini model which is in favor of a larger yet affordable iPhone which is the iPhone 14 Plus. It has the same hardware as the regular iPhone 14, but with a much larger 6.7-inch display and a larger battery. It is a more affordable version to the more expensive and premium version, iPhone 14 Pro Max
The iPhone 14 Plus offers a big 6.7-inch display for those who like large canvas while the iPhone 14 offers a more compact 6.1-inch display.
Camera
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus really don’t have a lot of hardware changes, only marginal ones. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have some new and neat camera improvements. Here is the difference in the camera of the iPhone 14 series
Phone | Back camera ultra-wide | Back camera wide | Front camera | Telephoto |
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus | 12MP f/2.4, 13mm | 12MP f/1.5, 26mm fp | 12MP f/1.9, 24, 25, 30 and 60 fp | None |
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max | 12MP f/2.2, 13mm | 48MP f/1.7, 24mm fps | 12MP f/1.9. 24, 25, 30, 60fps | 3X mode: 12MP f/2.8 77mm
2X mode:12MP f/1.78 48mm |
The great improvement here is the new 48MP Sony-made 1/1.3-inch camera sensor which the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max has. It will make use of pixel-binning to achieve better low-light camera sensitivity. The data from four camera sensor pixels will be used together to capture much more detail and less noise, at the expense of lower output image resolution. The camera lens has Sapphire crystal lens cover and a True Tone flash.
Design
As mentioned before the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus looks similar to the iPhone 13 in overall design with diagonally-shaped camera islands at the rear and slim notches up front. The iPhone 14 Plus is first of its kind and is a better version of the regular iPhone 14, with larger battery and display on board.
But that isn’t the case of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. They look very different from their prototype. The full frontals of both pro phones look more modern with the punch-hole cutouts to the display notches of the older models. The flat design which was kick started in the iPhone 12 and is now upgraded has been kept alive.
One notable new design is the lack of a SIM card tray in the U.S. version of the iPhone 14 series. Apple has started using e-SIM support, so users won’t have to bother with physical sim cards anymore.
Colors
There are new colors for the iPhone 14 series. For the pro versions, the green and blue colors are out but the blue is still present in the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus version. The pink which is in regular iPhones was replaced by a darker shade of violet.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus come in five colors: Midnight, Starlight, Blue, Purple, and Product (Red).
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max come in four colors: Space Black, Silver, Gold, and Deep Purple.

It is obvious that the Pro model is better than the regular model for this year’s iPhone. You get a very unique camera cutout on the top, a better screen and higher peak brightness. The biggest difference between the Pro models and the regular models is the camera. With the Pro, you get a new 48MP wide sensor which is said to be up to 65-percent large.
But if all you want is an iPhone that can last you for a long period of time, then the regular iPhone 14 is all you need. The only difference between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus is the screen and battery size as mentioned before.
After all analysis it is left to you to think which of the iPhone 14 series you are getting or if you want to stick with any of the iPhone 13 with you.
